Kobe Bryant is excited!
Fig Cap: Kobe is REALLY excited that I chose him… and apparently the other dude too.

So, I’m watching The Professional starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman as I write this… kick butt movie.  However, aside from the great action scenes and brilliant Gary Oldman performance, there just isn’t something right about the relationship between Leon and Mathilda.  But, you know what it’s just a movie and I love it no matter what.  I sort of feel the same about Kobe Bryant - despite any moral apprehension I might have, it’s just fantasy basketball and I love the stats that Bryant gives me.

I guess this makes me a Kobephiliac.

LeBron James getting busy!

Round 1, Pick 1: LeBron James

The crew from Dropping Dimes is back this summer like the Transformers with another Fantasy Draft Blog! We promise not to change the draft blog too much from the original format, unlike Spielberg changing Soundwave for the Transformers movie. What is up with that?  This year we agreed on a writing rotation about our picks. The rotation will be Ron, Dennis, Alvin, and Sarge. And with the first overall pick and after watching the NBA playoffs this year my choice was easy - LeBron James.

KG vs. Yao MingHere’s hoping your 7/7/07 day was full of luck…because Friday the 13th is just around the corner! Whether you partied it up by attending a wedding, or you sat at home watching the Live Earth concert, here’s hoping you are now for some one-on-one action today! KG is still in Minnesota (for now) but he is raring to go.

On a separate note, our second annual mock draft blog is set to launch later this week. We hope that by starting a month earlier than last year, we will be able to crank out at least a couple more rounds by the time October rolls around.

Later, Ray AllenAs Ray Allen dribbles out the clock on his days in Seattle before making the trek east (cue the Ray Allen/Allan Ray jokes already), he has to make a pit stop and play in the second round of our tourney. The schedule had Allen slotted in for the final match-up of the round, but with the draft day trade, it makes sense to move him and his dancing partner up a week. So who does Ray go toe to toe with? Read on to find out.

The past edition of our tourney updates received a record amount of page views for its first week, which means the ratio between reader votes and lurkers is insanely low. So hopefully these new match-ups more than meet your fancy, and you can shed the shy guy persona and make yourself heard!

Happy Canada Day!

What do Transformers have to do with basketball! With a new live-action/CGI movie coming out in mere weeks, it makes sense to reminisce about Optimus Prime locking horns with Megatron. Pound for pound they stand very evenly matched in a classic showdown between good and evil. Our second round continues to transform and roll out as we review the match-ups from last week and serve up two more confrontations to ponder. So take a break from your football cheat sheets for a few minutes, and flip it back to hoops!

Go Greg! Get Busy!It seems that the NBA Finals ended almost quickly as they started, but for all of us NBA draftniks whose teams were not the Spurs or Cavs it’s time to more concretely look forward to next season - it’s NBA Draft time.  However, NBA general managers and scouts aren’t the only ones that need to keep an eye out for prospects to draft.  Every
fantasy basketball manager would be wise to stay on top of the incoming rooks.  Using my NBA Mock Draft over at About.com as a guide, here are the potential fantasy values for ten of the more noteworthy players that you should keep tabs on.

Wilt Chamberlain vs. Bill RussellHappy Father’s Day to all the dads and grandfathers out there. Here’s a picture of players from my dad’s time, Wilt the Stilt and Bill Russell, two of the all-time greats.Enjoy the day surrounded by your loved ones as they spend about 40% of what they did last month for Mother’s Day!  Dropping Dimes is giving props to each and every one of you, including LeBron James and Bruce Bowen, who received new additions to their families during the NBA Finals. The second round in our one-on-one tourney kicks off today, but first we look back on the four players that headlined the past week, and ask them, “Who’s your daddy?”

Larry Bird vs. Dr. JThe first round of our one-one-one tourney concludes this week with two marquee bouts. Hopefully the Cavs are still alive and kicking when our second round kicks off. The likes of Kobe, KG and Agent Zero could await the winners of this week’s match-ups, as we hope to drive towards something along the lines of today’s Federer-Nadal match in the French Open. But first we survey the damage from last week.

DescriptionAlright avid readers…we need your help.

While Alvin has been kicking tail with his one-on-one tourney, Sarge has apparently done nothing.  Until now.

The wonderful staff of Ladies… has gone all out in seeding a tournament of male bloggers throughout the ‘sphere.  From Dan Shanoff of ESPN fame to Paul Shirley of Phoenix Suns fame, the “Ladies” have seeded four regions of sports bloggers, and are now leaving it up to you!

So…Queue shameless plug…

Though I’ve drawn a rough seeding (18th!), with your help, we can pull the upset of the century - or at least the upset of the last couple of minutes.  You can access my region by Clicking Here.  Scroll down the my mug in the 5-18 battle, and vote away!

Feel free to even log in on various computers to ring in a few more votes.  Oh, and if you’re really ambitious…consider voting for all of the underdogs to make the future rounds that much better!

Thanks in advance guys…

LeBron vs. KobeCongratulations to the Cleveland Cavaliers for making the NBA Finals! I am sure everyone other than Pistons fans are glad to see you on the ticket. ‘Bron in Game 5 will be a performance put on par with the other greats and their awesome games when the stakes were high.

Kobe and ‘Bron kicked off our tourney more than a month and a half ago. The votes did not fall ‘Bron’s way; would things be different if he could ride his current momentum against Mr. Trade Me/Don’t Trade Me? Never fear, because as always, we have two nice match-ups for you to consider.
